Our Mission

To secure Arizona’s future prosperity by advocating with one voice for responsible development and electing leaders who champion reliable, affordable utilities as the cornerstone of sustainable economic growth.

Utility Regulation

Seperator gradient

The Arizona Corporation Commission is the primary regulatory agency for utility companies in Arizona like APS. It oversees electric, gas, and water utilities, telephone companies, and pipeline safety.

SRP, however, is a not-for-profit public power utility governed by an elected board and is not regulated by the ACC for its electric operations. Instead, SRP sets its own rates and policies through an internal process involving public meetings and board approval.

High-quality Commissioners and Board Members are essential to guide responsible growth that balances reliability, affordability, and sound public policy. The decisions made by these elected bodies directly shape Arizona’s energy future and economic development.

The Power Grid

Arizona’s grid is a complex system that ensures reliable electricity delivery to homes, businesses, and industries across the state. It includes a combination of traditional and renewable energy sources. The key components are generation, transmission, and distribution.

Arizona’s Power Generation Mix

Arizona’s grid is one of the most reliable in the nation and experienced no major power outages during the historic heatwave in 2024 despite record electricity use.

Arizona utilities are responsibly deploying a diverse energy mix—including coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, solar, and wind to meet unprecedented power demands.

In addition, the state is working on improving transmission capacity and developing new transmission projects to support clean energy integration and regional power sharing.

Gas, Nuclear, and Coal

Natural Gas | 45%

Nuclear | 27%

Coal | 8%

Renewables

Solar | 13%

Hydroelectric | 4%

Wind | 2%
